What is Rice Vinegar?

Made from fermented rice, rice vinegar is a staple ingredient in many Asian cuisines. In comparison to other vinegar products, rice vinegar tends to lend a more mild and more neutral flavor. Rice vinegar comes in a variety of offerings including unseasoned, seasoned, black, brown, and red. Each is slightly different with unique cooking applications, but all are equally delicious.

Traditionally, rice vinegar is used in Asian cuisine, most popularly in Chinese, Korean, Japanese, and Vietnamese cooking. However, the possibilities are endless, this versatile vinegar can easily be used in a variety of other cuisines from American to Mediterranean. Try rice vinegar in stir fries and noodle bowls, or as an ingredient in marinades or salad dressing.
