A Message from Our CEO
To our customers,
It may go without saying that it was an eventful week in global trade. As of this writing, the 10% across-the-board “baseline” tariffs have been implemented, with the additional “reciprocal” tariffs set to be implemented on April 9. These tariffs will significantly impact global trade and are likely to affect both the cost and availability of imported goods across various categories.
At Roland Foods, we understand the unpredictability these tariffs bring to an already complex supply chain. The situation on tariffs has proven to be fluid in recent months, so we are in active communication with our regulatory partners to gain information as it becomes available. We have been preparing for different trade outcomes to ensure as much continuity as possible for our customers. We have been evaluating alternative sourcing options and collaborating with our supply chain and regulatory partners to navigate these changes effectively.
Prior to the tariff announcement, container import volumes continued to pace above prior year. February imports were up nearly 5% from last year, though it’s unclear whether this reflects strong demand or an effort to move goods ahead of potential tariff hikes. Many ocean carriers have delayed Peak Season Surcharges and General Rate Increases, signaling concerns about slowing volume.
Regarding the crop landscape, the Kalamata olive harvest is showing strong potential across major producing regions, including Greece, Spain, and Tunisia. After a difficult season in Greece last year, this positive forecast should help stabilize supply and support overall category growth.
Growing conditions in leading artichoke-producing areas have been favorable, setting the stage for a strong harvest. With these strong yields, we are well-positioned to meet and exceed demand throughout the season.
During these times of change and uncertainty, we thank you for your continued support in trust in Roland Foods. Our dedication to delivering exceptional service and high-quality products remains unwavering, and we will keep our community informed as we receive new updates.
